前言

藝術家都是應該有態度的,不論是中國過去士大夫的“窮著獨善其身,達者兼濟天下”的態度;還是象八大山人的那種憤世的、帶有一種不合作的態度;還有當代有些作品主題直指對強權政治以及社會現象的不滿,等等。都反映了各種藝術的態度,這種態度就是藝術家對社會生活的一種體驗后的自己的表態。肖毓方就是一個有態度的藝術家,從他的作品里除了有藝術家的修養、表現語言外,更重要的應該是他的獨立人格。
他是個獨立藝術家,在現實中他不依附于任何組織、流派,一直以獨行者的姿態自由地往來于現實與夢幻之間,用夢魘與囈語的、符箓般的形式構筑卡夫卡式的寓言,寄希望揭示人類生存所面臨的普遍困境,致力于探尋靈魂內部的風景,更多地呈現出一種富有現代主義色彩的精神氣質...... 不同是生活態度產生不同的作品,有人說肖毓方的創作具有巫楚詩性智慧在現代性的思想背景下獨特的探索靈魂世界的方式。而我認為他的作品中的那種顛覆符箓系統,是在一個更大的文化背景之上的,實際上已經超越了巫楚文化的背景,更具有薩滿的基因。他的符號的意義在他的畫面上已經脫變成具有記憶系統的一些序列性靈感,其“超越的符箓”系列承載了他不斷吸取危機意識的創作能力,體現了藝術家對自我世界的進一步認識和體驗,展現了表象背后真實的多重層面,正是通過傳統筆觸的熟悉和陌生狀態的轉化,才更能表現是畫家思緒和情緒的流動。

Artistshould have their own attitude , no matter you are the Chinese old master “Arepoor, you alone, amounting to the world and relief.” ; or like Bada shanren ’sanger and un cooperated attitude ; also the contemporary art work which pointto the dissatisfaction of strong government and society phenomenon .etc . Theyare all reflecting different attitudes, those attitudes are artists expressionof their living. Xiao YuFang is an artist who has attitude, from his art workyou can see not only his culture and expression langue, but more important ishis own independent character.
He is an independent artist; he does not depend on any organization, totallyfree as a Loner to travel in between reality and dream. Using the nightmare,raving and Ofuda as a form to build up a Kafkaesque’s style fable. Trying to expressthe common difficulty of our living. Explore the inside picture of soul. Morelikely to express a contemporary style of mental …. Different living stylecreated a different art work. Someone say Xiao YuFang’s art work is using theold poetic intelligent of Wu-Chu culture to reflect the individual soul. And Ithink that he is using a new angle to renew Ofuda .In a bigger culture background,it totally beyond Wu-Chu culture and having the Shamanism genes. His symbolmeaning of visual expression is transform to become a memory of a series of inspiration.His “Beyond the Ofuda” represent his understanding of crisis awareness creation,full fill the world of artist deeper understanding and experiencing. Providingus the layer and diversity behind the visual surface. Though the traditionalstyle of brush to retransform the familiar and strange in order to show thepainter’s mental and emotional movement.
